My Travel Advice

Travelling can seem scary prospect with coeliac disease, especially when you're newly diagnosed or going to new places you're not familiar with!

Therefore, I have put together some of my top tips for travelling from my own experience to make it seem less daunting!

1. Get a translation card, it makes eating out easier and safer! TravelCards

2. Use the app FindMe GF to find restaurants/cafes and bakeries near you, super helpful!

3. If you’re worried you won’t find basic bits in supermarkets then you can always bring your own pasta and bread for the first week (self catering). Although, it is helpful to do your research beforehand as most countries will sell GF products

4. Look on Coeliacs Eat Abroad on facebook for advice on countries/ recommendations of restaurants!

5. Try and stay near a shop, so if you want snacks or run out of snacks you’ve brought you can go to one and get more! Plus you'll probably find products you can't get at home!

6. Familiarise yourself with the airports you're flying from. I tend to look up what restaurants are at the airport and do my research to see if there are any gluten free options. I also check to see if anyone has posted about the airports on Coeliacs Eat Abroad, this is super handy if you're going to one you've never been to before!

So, don't let coeliac disease or being GF stop you from booking that flight!

You can enjoy travelling as much as anyone else, it just takes a bit of extra research but the information and guidance is out there!!
