Eating out at Pizza Express as a Coeliac

This week I went to Pizza Express, my favourite chain restaurant which is safe for coeliacs! It is accredited by the Coeliac UK, which creates so much reassurance when eating out!

It has been a while since I last went, but it never disappoints! When I arrived the waiter at the door asked if there were any food allergies or intolerances. So, I informed him of myself having coeliac disease. Therefore, he provided me the allergy menu which explains what is safe and what isn’t, it also has a check list for every option on the menu, so you can see what it contains and double check that it is safe for your dietary requirements! It is super helpful!

All their Romana and Classic pizzas can be ordered as gluten free, made in their gluten free bakery. Also, their gluten free pizzas are served on a black board, which is how you know that it is 100% gluten free. You can also get gluten free dough-balls. If you haven’t tried these already then you must!! Another amazing aspect of Pizza Express is their penne pasta is made with rice flour, so it is gluten free! And to avoid cross contamination they only use gluten free rice flour in their kitchens!

I ordered gluten free dough-balls as a started which come with garlic butter to dip in, the only downside is that there is only 5, whereas the regular portion has 8! So, it’s a bit frustrating that we must have less! Not sure if this is because of the cost or something else?!

For my main, I had a gluten free margherita with ham added to it! They provide you with a pizza slicer to cut it yourself further reducing cross contamination!

I didn’t have a dessert because I was SO full but, they do offer a chocolate brownie which is gluten free!!

So, if you haven’t been in a while or have never been let this be your sign to go! I couldn’t recommend it more! It is so good!
